Open Position 1:
Part-Time Math Instructor and Mentor
(Afternoons/Evenings and/or Weekends)
Locations: San Francisco, Daly City, Hayward, Menlo Park, Oakland, Pacifica, Palo Alto, Portola Valley and Santa Cruz
Descartes Learning Club’s raison d'être is to develop problem-solving minds and inspire a lifelong love for learning through world-class math education, fostering investigation and tailored to each student's unique needs, all within a nurturing environment. You will teach at school campuses to small classes of 2-8 students on weekdays for 1-2.5 hours (mostly at least 1.5 hours for each weekday) between 3-6pm, or between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekends. We are flexible and can adapt to your weekly availability. Specific schedules may vary depending on your and students’ available days and times.

Qualifications

Must have a solid background in mathematics. A bachelor's degree in math or a related field is preferred but we also consider exceptionally talented and mature undergraduate students majoring in math or a related field who have math competition backgrounds and teaching experiences.

A master's degree or higher in a STEM field is preferred.

Must have experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.

Available to teach in-person at our San Francisco Bay Area locations during our high-demand hours of Monday-Friday 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. (PST/PDT) for 1-2.5 hours each time, and/or Saturday-Sunday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (PST/PDT).

Familiarity with math competitions is preferred.
Open Position 2:
Recruiting & Partnerships Lead (Full-Time)
Location: This role is primarily remote, with a slight preference for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Salary range: $65,000–$85,000/year, depending on experience and location.

Responsibilities
1. Instructor Recruiting (Primary Responsibility): You will lead the end-to-end pipeline for recruiting DLC’s part-time math instructors. Key tasks include:
- Designing and executing creative, effective recruiting strategies across multiple channels
- Building pipelines through university and other community partnerships
- Managing job postings, sourcing, screening, and interview coordination
- Owning the candidate experience with clear, warm, responsive communication
- Tracking metrics and optimizing funnel performance
- Acting as an ambassador for DLC’s teaching culture, values, and mission
This is the core of the role and requires someone highly proactive, relationship-oriented, strategic, and excited to build a high-performing teacher pipeline for a growing organization.
2. Business Development & School Partnerships (Secondary Responsibility): In addition to recruiting, you will help DLC expand to more schools and communities. You will:
- Support outreach to new schools and community partners
- Help prepare partnership materials, introductory outreach, and follow-up communication
- Build relationships with administrators, families, and education leaders
- Identify new neighborhoods and communities where DLC can expand
- Track outreach activities and help refine our partnerships playbook
This part of the role is ideal for someone who enjoys relationship-building, networking, and representing an educational mission you believe in.
3. Light Operations Support (Minor Responsibility): This role includes limited operational tasks, primarily to support smooth enrollment workflows during peak seasons, such as:
- Supporting enrollment communications during peak seasons
- Maintaining clean documentation and operational checklists
Qualifications

2–5 years of experience in recruiting, campus outreach, community engagement, business development, or related roles
