My sons are in 2nd and 4th grade at Argonne. I was looking for a tutor to help engage them in math over the summer months. When I asked around, a friend who has a 4th grader at Presidio Hill told me about Descartes Learning Club and how her daughter and other students have really enjoyed the program. We were able to have a Descartes Learning Club instructor work with our sons for several one-hour sessions during the summer, and it's been really fantastic for them. Through the initial assessment, the program was able to pinpoint the appropriate level for them within the Beast Academy curriculum. My sons enjoy the sessions, and seem inspired by the instructor, who is studying Applied Mathematics and Statistics at Berkeley. He has introduced my sons to new and different ways to think about math concepts and how to solve problems. They seem challenged at times, but not overwhelmed by the work. And I believe these classes will enhance their confidence and ability to work through challenges they may confront as they move forward with the math curriculum at school.
